CIMC Enric provides hydrogen energy solutions for the first ever zero-carbon smart energy demonstration project

2022-08-08

Contributing to the 17th Games of Shaanxi Province

(8 Aug 2022 – Hong Kong) - CIMC Enric Holdings Limited (“CIMC Enric” or “the Company”) together with its subsidiaries (the "Group") (Stock Code: 3899.HK) today is pleased to announce that the CIMC Hydrogen Energy Technology Limited (“CIMC Hydrogen Tech”), a subsidiary of CIMC Enric, successfully provided the water electrolysis technology to produce hydrogen solutions, hydrogen storage and transportation solutions, as well as the technology of pressure regulation and hydrogen supply integrated solutions and related core equipment for the Yulin Science and Innovation New City Zero Carbon Distributed Smart Energy Centre Demonstration Project (the "Project"). The project is the first practical, large-scale application of a zero-carbon multi-energy supply and demand system containing hydrogen energy. Its implementation is expected to provide a new technical pathway to help achieve the goal of emission peak and carbon neutrality. The project will also provide energy for the 17th Games of Shaanxi Province, which commenced on 6 August.

The project converts Yulin's rich solar energy resources into electricity through photovoltaic panels to provide clean supply of electricity. The surplus electricity is extracted and stored in the form of hydrogen through water electrolysis. Hydrogen from electrolytic water together with hydrogen produced by the Yulin hydrogen supply chain is converted into electricity and heat through chemical reactions in the hydrogen fuel cell system, creating a zero-carbon cycle that generates zero-carbon emissions. The heat can be converted into cold energy through heat pumps, and together with the heat (cold) water storage facilities, the project will provide one-stop energy solutions combining electricity, cold and heat for the building.

The water electrolysis solution, hydrogen storage and transportation solution, pressure regulation and hydrogen supply integrated  solution and related core equipment were provided by the Company's Langfang Hydrogen Integration Business Unit. Langfang BU has 18 years of experience in developing and manufacturing high pressure refuelling station products.

The equipment supplied for this project is mostly designed and manufactured using an integrated skid with features such as high integration, high automation, small size, low occupation of floor space and safety and environmental protection requirements. It also incorporates intelligent systems to achieve fully automatic control, real-time communication and process monitoring.

The project's hydrogen production, storage, transportation, unloading, pressure regulation and intelligent control systems are all provided by CIMC Enric. The broad range of services provided demonstrates the Company's ability to manufacture hydrogen energy equipment throughout the entire industrial chain.

At the end of 2021, the Company signed a contract with Baowu Clean Energy Co., Ltd to provide a demonstration of its hydrogen combined heat and power system for the Baowu Operations and Management Building. Phase I of the project is equipped with Panasonic's hydrogen power generation equipment and is being skid-mounted with "The 1.4kW of hydrogen combined heat and power pilot plant for buildings.

Deputy General Manager of CIMC Enric & Head of Hydrogen Business Ms Beverly Baoying Yang said, “The distributed combined heat and power system directly targets end-users. Compared to the traditional centralised production, transportation and end-consumption model, the distributed energy supply system directly provides different energy types to end-users, minimising transportation consumption and effectively utilising the waste heat generated during the power generation process, thereby improving energy efficiency. The application of our hydrogen energy equipment and technology in the Yulin Science and Innovation New City Zero Carbon Distributed Smart Energy Centre Demonstration Project is further expanding the company's technology in the distributed energy storage field. In the future, we will continue to increase our R&D efforts in hydrogen production, storage and application of renewable energy. We will also actively explore practical and large-scale zero-carbon energy utilization methods which contribute to the achievement of China's dual-carbon goals.”
